The Bronx PIC
The Bronx Private Industry Council (PIC) is an employer-led, student-centered alliance transforming how businesses, schools, and community organizations develop talent pipelines in The Bronx. The Bronx PIC connects Bronx employers with the talent they need to achieve their long-term business goals, creates internships and work-based learning opportunities for Bronx students, and helps to build a bright economic future for the borough.
Founded by HERE to HERE in partnership with the Bronx Borough President’s Office, the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation, and a diverse group of local employers and institutions, The Bronx PIC is committed to supporting the evolving needs of Bronx businesses and partnering to prepare Bronx students to generate inclusive economic growth across the borough.
For too long, the employer voice has not been central to the design and implementations of workforce development initiatives. The PIC brings employers together to articulate common needs and challenges, and develop shared solutions. PIC members start with a common goal: to develop more prepared workforce and a deep base of local talent from which employers can recruit.
In 2018, Bronx PIC employers connected 257 students to paid six-week internships. 175 of these students were a part of the HERE to HERE high school network, which represents ten schools and roughly 3,500 students. The summer pilot successfully established meaningful relationships between Bronx employers and youth, and demonstrated the employer value of engaging young people.
